Kulamanu Farms LLC

Anne Carter started farming at Kulamanu, her family’s home and ranch in 1995. Her great-grandparents had farmed the land in the 1920’s and sold vegetables to Honolulu. Kulamanu Farm began growing medicinal herbs and native Hawaiian plants and has grown to offer cut Bird of Paradise, avocado, blueberry, cherimoya, citrus, sapote and fresh eggs. An additional 45 acres of pasture are leased for organic beef.
The medicinal herbs include Echinancea, Edible Hibiscus, Lemongrass,`Olena, Mamaki, Green tea, and Valerian.
In 2002, the farm became certified organic. Even the Bird of Paradise receives organic inputs only although due to the use of weed mat which is not approved for organic production, Anne does not seek certification for the Birds.
In 2003, Anne was able to purchase Maka`ehu Farm which expanded the farm by 9 acres, including avocado and Bird of Paradise. The Bird of Paradise are carefully tended and harvested early each morning to preserve color and brightness.
In addition to care for her farm and her young daughter, Anne is active in the community supporting conservation. Anne is currently serving as President of the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens, as well as a member of the following boards; The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, The National Tropical Botanical Garden, and Seabury Hall.
